Now that I have been doing my internship at TCA for a couple of weeks, I got my first big assignment to focus on. I am going to plan and compile a digital marketing strategy for the summer season opening of Sandy B Beach Club. Sandy B is a beach club at The Bay Hotel in Camps Bay. During this project, I will be dealing with different aspects of marketing and I hope to learn a lot during this project.
Besides being busy with the beginning of my marketing project, I also went to Camps Bay Retreat with my colleague Julia to take some pictures of Bangers and Mash; 2 lovely dogs who were adopted from Sidewalk Specials and now live at Camps Bay Retreat. Bangers and Mash are special to everyone in the hotel and they get a lot of love and attention. We had to take these pictures so we can use them for our social media channels. During our visit at the Camps Bay Retreat, we also spotted a dassie in the trees. A dassie is a typical South African animal that lives all around South Africa, but mostly in the mountains.
Cape Town is such a beautiful city. You have so much to do and see. Really incredible. In the weekend I often do fun things with my friends in Cape Town and surrounds. In my first month, I already did a lot of nice things and now that the winter is almost over, I will do a lot more in the coming months. Here are a few activities that I have had the pleasure of doing so far.
- Skeleton Gorge Hike:
We did it ! Skeleton Gorge, also known as the most difficult and toughest hiking route to the top
of the Table Mountain, but it was really worth it. In 4.5 hours time we saw so many different beautiful landscapes. We had to climb up through waterfalls which was tough but fun.
Halfway through, we spotted a beautiful large lake. We rested there and quickly ate something to get some energy. Once up on the trail, there was unfortunately a lot of fog, but it was still very beautiful. To have a better view of Table Mountain, we have to go back again when the weather is clear!
- Lions Head hike:
After hiking Table Mountain, we decided to also hike Lions Head on a different day. From here, you have a beautiful 360º view of Cape Town and surrounds. The view is sooo amazing!!
The walk to the top should take approximately an hour. Along the path you will find a series of chains and ladders to assist you as you scramble up a particularly steep section of rocky faces.
I know for sure that I am going to do this hike more often. If you are in Cape Town you definitely have to do this hike if you’re able to.
- Buffelsfontein
Before I went to South Africa I always wanted to do an safari game drive. A lot of safari parks are just one hour outside of Cape Town. We decided to visit Buffelsfontein. It is located just one hour outside of Cape Town. The game drive was not that big and less extensive than others but it was a nice experience! I saw many animals such as ostriches, zebras, wildebeests and giraffes in the wild and lions, cheetahs and a black panther behind fences. Unfortunately, we did not spot the wild white rhino.
- Wine tasting
My first wine tasting experience in South Africa was at Groot Constantia. Every wine was combined with a piece of chocolate. The chocolate is tailored to the wine, which ensured a good combination. It was a nice wine tasting experience and I am sure more will follow.
- Sunset signal hill
After work on a sunny day, I went to Signal Hill with some snacks and beer to see the sunset with a breathtaking view. Signal Hill is the ultimate Cape Town spot from which to watch the sunset. You have a beautiful view over the ocean, Cape Town, Table Mountain and Lions Head.
Besides all those many attractions Cape Town offers, Cape Town also has so many nice restaurants where you can have dinner for a good price. In my first month, I went to a lot of restaurants and I have noted a couple of good restaurants I recommend.
- Mantra Café in Camps Bay (nice big pizza’s, beautiful sunset view)
- La Belle in Camps Bay (delicious food, beautiful sunset view)
- Fork tapas (good tapas, not that big, little bit expensive)
- Radisson Red rooftop bar (great view, good food)
- Today & Tomorrow in Kloof street (good pasta and beers)
- Mojo Market Sea point (live music, cosy place, all kind of food, different eateries)
- San Marco V&A Waterfront (good food, beautiful place)
- Active Sushi Bree street (Unlimited Sushi for a good price)
- Jerry’s Burger Bar Kloof street (great food, good price, nice cocktails)
