Pezula Championship Golf Course in Knysna, is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and challenging golf courses in South Africa. The stunning course, nestled in the rolling hills of the Pezula Estate, offers breathtaking views and 18-hole course that is a must-play for any golf aficionado.

Francois de Lange and Ashley Weir are the two resident golf pros at the course. Both of these golfers have impressive resumes, and their love for the game is clear to see.

Their unfaltering love of the game and specifically the Pezula Championship Golf Course, make them a wonderful addition to the Pezula golfing experience. They’re there to lend a helping hand where they can, and make sure that guests have the best possible experience when tackling the course.

We recently caught up with Francois and Ashley and found out a bit more about their careers, what they love most about the Pezula course, and what insider tips they can give to prospective players.

  1. How long have you been playing golf?

I have been playing golf for 21 years.

  1. What first got you interested in the sport of golf?

My grandmother was a very keen golfer, and it was thanks to her that I myself got into the game.

  1. When did you turn pro?

I became a qualified pro in 2015.

  1. What would you say is your favourite part of the game?

The short game (pitching and putting) is my favourite part of the game. I also enjoy being out on a beautiful course with good company.

  1. The Pezula Championship Golf Course is one of the most beautiful in South Africa – if not the world. What makes this course so special in your opinion?

The history within the golf club makes it special, as well as its beautiful setting on the coast. The combination of a parkland and coastal course makes it unique. The two nines are completely different which makes a player want to come back for more!

  1. What is your favourite hole to play on the Pezula Championship Golf Course?

Hole number 4 and number 13 – very much a risk and reward hole. They are challenging and most of all, the scenic view of the two holes is incredible.

  1. What is your current handicap?

My  current handicap is 4. I need to practice some more and get used to coastal golf!

  1. If you had to give amateur golfers one pro tip, what would it be?

A pro tip for Pezula is to have soft hands around the greens when playing short game. You also don’t need driver on every hole. Course management is imperative at Pezula.

  1. If you could play on any course in the world, which course would it be and why?

Augusta National in Georgia in the USA. It is known to be the most beautiful setting and most challenging course out there! Certainly a bucket list golf course for me!

  1. Lastly, what is your secret to a good swing?

Keep it smooth and slow it down. A good finish in a golf swing results in a good shot! Pose for a photo finish!
