It’s that time of the year again when we welcome South Africa’s premier film festival, the annual Silwerskermfees, to The Bay Hotel.
Without sounding too cliche, this year’s festival truly looks set to be the best one yet. Now in its ninth year, the Silwerskermfees has become a beacon of South African filmmaking talent. And as hosts of this fabulous festival, we’re excited to give you a peek at some of the feature films and short films that are in competition at Silwerskermfees 2019.
This year’s films will include:
Full Length Films
Fiela se Kind: Based on Dalene Matthee’s famous novel, this film stars the talented Zenobia Kloppers in the title role.
Flatland: A thriller written and directed by Jenna Bass.
Poppie Nongena: Directed by award-winning director, Christiaan Olwagen, this film follows the story of Poppie Nongena, an Afrikaans speaking Xhosa woman, fighting to keep her children and stay in her country.
Racheltjie De Beer: Starring the talented Stian Bam, this film is directed by Matthys Boshoff.
Toorbos: Another film based on one of Dalene Matthee’s best-selling novels of the name.
Griekwastad: This film stars Arnold Vosloo of ‘The Mummy’ fame in the lead and is based on the story of terrible farm murders in Griekwastad.
