Village n Life has recently been involved in an uplifting community project that aims to inspire young children to stay active, by founding a soccer team named “The Royal Tigers.”
The group bought units in the Royal Maitland One complex in Maitland which acts as a “staff village” where a handful of our staff members live.
The aim with the programme and the purchase of the units in Royal Maitland One, was to help improve the livelihood of Village n Life staff, as well as helping with the morale of our hardworking staff members.
Within the Royal One community, we wanted to become more involved and improve the community. We managed to do so through our ‘Do Good’ programme. Thus, we initiated the creation of the ‘Royal Tigers’ soccer team.
The team started as a collaboration with Play Sport 4 Life – a non-profit organisation specialising in sport for underprivileged communities. We wanted to give our staff’s children, who also live in the complex, more opportunities to be active.
There is a dedicated sports field with a gate that offers safe access for children to travel between Royal Maitland One’s residential complex and the sports field. Village n Life has sponsored each child with their own soccer kit, and the team receives training from coaches volunteering at Play Sport 4 Life.
The team played their first tournament in Phillippi this year, with a vast majority of parents attending the game and supporting them. The morale was high amongst the team members, and we are confident that their skills will only improve. Our hope is to encourage them to use sport as a way of being active and reaching their goals.
